Datenschutzerklärung according to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In short: no cookies, no advertising or cross-site tracking, only privacy-friendly aggregate visitor statistics, and your microphone audio never leaves your device.

2. Hosting and server logs

This website is served by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit a page, your browser automatically transmits technical data that Cloudflare processes to deliver the site and protect it against attacks: your IP address, date and time of the request, the requested URL, the referrer, and your browser’s user agent. We do not combine this data with other sources.

Legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure and reliable website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which provides an adequate level of data protection for transfers to the USA (Art. 45 GDPR). We have concluded a data processing agreement with Cloudflare. Further information: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

3. Cookies and web analytics

This website does not set cookies and does not use advertising or cross-site tracking tools. Fonts and other resources are loaded from our own server; the only exception is the analytics script described below.

To understand which pages are used and how fast they load, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, provided by Cloudflare, Inc. (address see section 2). When a page loads, your browser fetches a small script from static.cloudflareinsights.com, which sends the following data to Cloudflare: the visited URL, the referrer, your browser’s user agent, screen size, and page-load performance metrics. Your IP address is necessarily transmitted to establish the connection. Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies, local storage or fingerprinting, does not create user profiles, and does not track you across websites. We only see aggregated statistics (e.g. page views, countries, browsers, load times) and cannot identify individual visitors.

Legal basis is our legitimate interest in analysing and improving our website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare processes the data on our behalf under a data processing agreement; regarding transfers to the USA, the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework applies as described in section 2. You can prevent the collection by blocking static.cloudflareinsights.com, e.g. with a content blocker, or by disabling JavaScript. Further information: cloudflare.com/web-analytics.

4. Microphone (tuner)

The tuner only accesses your microphone after you start it and your browser asks for permission. The audio signal is analysed entirely in your browser to detect the pitch. It is never recorded, stored, or transmitted to us or anyone else. You can revoke microphone access at any time in your browser settings.

5. Affiliate links

Some pages contain affiliate links, including links to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. For the German store, the Amazon partner program is operated by Amazon Europe Core S.à r.l., Amazon EU S.à r.l., Amazon Services Europe S.à r.l. and Amazon Media EU S.à r.l., 38 avenue John F. Kennedy, L-1855 Luxembourg; for other country stores, by the respective local Amazon company.

To link you to the Amazon store of your country, your browser asks our own server (served by Cloudflare, see section 2) which country your connection comes from. This lookup happens in your browser only; the result is kept for the current browser session (session storage) and is not stored by us or sent to Amazon. If the lookup fails, your browser’s language setting is used instead. Legal basis is our legitimate interest in showing you working links to your local store (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

No data is transmitted when you merely view a page with such links. Only when you click one are you taken to the partner’s website, which may set cookies there to attribute your purchase to us. We do not receive any personal data about you from this — only aggregated commission reports. Please refer to the partner’s privacy policy, e.g. Amazon’s privacy notice.

6. External links

We link to external websites such as tab and chord sites. Their operators are responsible for any data processing once you follow such a link.

7. Contacting us by email

If you email us, we process your email address and the content of your message to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where it concerns a contract). We delete this data once it is no longer needed, unless statutory retention periods apply.

8. Correction and song suggestion forms

The “Report a wrong tuning” and “Suggest a song” forms are sent through FormSubmit (formsubmit.co, operated by Devro LABS), which forwards them to us by email. Only when you press “Send” does your browser transmit what you entered (song, tuning, notes, and your email address if you provide one), the page address and your IP address to FormSubmit. FormSubmit may process this data on servers outside the EU. We use the data solely to review your correction or suggestion and, if you left an email address, to reply (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is keeping the tuning database accurate). Providing an email address is optional. We delete messages once they are handled. You can also email us directly instead (section 7).

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access your personal data (Art. 15), to have it rectified (Art. 16) or erased (Art. 17), to restrict its processing (Art. 18), to data portability (Art. 20), and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state of your residence, place of work or the place of the alleged infringement (Art. 77 GDPR).
