Short

GuitarTunings is a free online tuner for guitar and ukulele. It listens through the microphone, shows how far each string is off, and covers 89 tunings such as Drop D, DADGAD and Open G, plus the tunings of 3,100+ songs. No ads, no sign-up, nothing to install.

Long

GuitarTunings is a free tuner for guitar and ukulele that runs entirely in the browser. It detects pitch from the microphone with the McLeod Pitch Method and shows, to within about two cents, how far each string is from its target. Audio is analysed on the device and never uploaded. Beyond standard tuning it covers 88 alternate tunings, each with per-string frequencies and a printable chart, and a song database shows which tuning more than 3,100 songs were recorded in, with the exact strings to change to get there. Teachers and website owners can embed the tuner for free. The site is available in English, German and Spanish.

Data study

Alternate guitar tunings by the numbers analyses 2,808 songs in 543 alternate tunings: which tunings are most used, which strings guitarists retune and how far they go. Charts are free to republish with a link.
